The buttons are placed very much so that they don't cross the chest. If you wanted to add more buttons, you'd just have to add more stitches to either side of the front, or follow the pattern as is and add a button band afterwards.
I basically wanted to avoid the whole "pregnant" look that one can get with some open-front tops, so I have pulled the front bits back far enough to (hopefully!) stop that!
It is pretty! Will I be able to button mine farther down ;p
